8th Graders at Jobs Ya'll

CITY VIEW ISD LETTER FROM THE CTE DIRECTOR

Date:  Sep 12, 2022

On behalf of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department at the City View Independent School District, I would like to officially welcome everyone back to school for the 2022-2023 school year. As we finish up our first progress reporting, it is evident that students and teachers are excited about CTE! Within our eight Programs of Study offered at CVISD we have students successfully learning and completing the knowledge and skills to be successful in preparing for in-demand, high-skill, high-wage careers by the time they graduate. Eighth Grade students recently attended the Jobs Yaā€™ll Career Expo hosted by ESC Region 9 in conjunction with the Texas Workforce Commission beginning their mission of success.

Our Programs of Study offer students a wide variety of opportunities to be successful with their chosen career and as a department we want to ensure that students are provided the skills necessary to succeed. The Programs of Study are designed to help students focus toward occupations that meet labor market criteria, ensure course sequences provide district and campus flexibility in program offerings, and lead to postsecondary education and training opportunities at a two or four year institution. Currently, City View CTE offers the following Programs of Study: Animal Science, Applied Agricultural Engineering, Environmental and Natural Resources, Plant Science, Business Management, Nursing Science, Culinary Arts, and Law Enforcement.

We also have students kicking off their year through Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs). The United States Department of Education recognizes the value of Career and Technical Student Organizations  and their place as an integral part of Career and Technical Education. The State of Texas and the Texas Education Code also recognizes the value of career and technical student organizations by emphasizing the importance of ā€œparticipation by students and teachers in activities of career and technical student organizations supported by the agency and the State Board of Education (Sec. 29.182).ā€ Here at City View CTE we are committed to the active involvement of students in the participation of CTSOs and are proud of their accomplishments. We look forward to a wonderful year of engagement and healthy, successful competition for our CTSOs!

Sincerely,

Miles Vann

CTE Director
